Bender comments about Sotomayor

Professor and Dean Emeritus Paul Bender recently was quoted by The Arizona Republic as saying U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor's background as a New York prosecutor might make her more conservative on criminal-procedure questions than retired Justice David Souter.

"You might disagree with her decisions, but there's no hint of her saying, `I'm going to do what I want to do and who cares what the law says and who cares what Congress says,'" Bender told Republic reporter Dan Nowicki. "She doesn't have any agenda, as far as I can tell. She's not a flaming liberal."
