In her monthly column in Maricopa Lawyer, Clinical Professor Tamara Herrera  warns against using wasteful words and phrases at the beginning of sentences because they take the focus off the main point and may affect clarity.

In "Play Ball! A 'Playbook' on Eradicating Wind-up Language," printed in the publication's July edition, Herrera provides red flags that can help the writer spot word-wasting phrases and also a list of common wind-up phrases and more effective replacements.
