| Rebecca Tsosie | Rebecca Tsosie, executive director of the Indian Legal Program, was quoted in an article on looting of Indian artifacts that ran on the front page of The Arizona Republic on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The article, headlined "Looting of Indian artifacts targeted: Federal crackdown reveals depth of criminal intrigue," was written by reporter Dennis Wagner. It outlines the ongoing federal crackdown on dealers of black-market Native American artifacts.
In the article, Wagner quotes Beth Grindell, director of the Arizona State Museum in Tucson, and Tsosie:
"Grindell and Rebecca Tsosie, executive director at Arizona State University's Indian Legal Program, said looters do tremendous scientific damage that also is devastating to Native American tribes. They said ruins that have been excavated quickly, often in the dark of night without expertise, lose virtually all their archeological value."
