ExamSoft Information

ExamSoft's SofTest software is the application that the law school uses for exam taking.  Students have the option of using this software to type the exam on their laptops or to handwrite the exam in a bluebook.  The law school uses SofTest as opposed to other software because it is the same software that the Arizona State Bar uses for the bar exam.

Minimum Laptop Requirements

  • PCs - If your PC laptop meets the minimum requirements set out by the law school (found here ), SofTest will work on your laptop.
  • Macs - You must have an Intel chip-based Mac that can boot either in Mac OS or Windows (XP or Vista).  This requires the Apple Boot Camp software.  Boot Camp comes with the Mac OS Leopard version.  If you have an older version of the Mac OS (such as X or Tiger) and do not already have Boot Camp installed, you will need to purchase and install Mac OS Leopard to get Boot Camp.  It is no longer available as a stand-alone application.  You also need a full version of the Windows OS (XP or Vista) to install once Boot Camp is on your laptop.  The law school does not provide any of this software to the students.
  • ExamSoft has tested its software for the above scenarios and confirms that these setups are compatible and supported by ExamSoft.

ExamSoft SofTest Training

Each Fall semester, the IT and Student Services department will conduct trainings for first year and transfer or visiting students.  One set of trainings will occur before Fall Midterms and the other before the Semester Finals.  Students will receive training information in emails indicating dates and times for the trainings.  It is important for all 1Ls to attend a training.  It will ensure that you, as a student, feels comfortable with the software and it will result in less problems on testing days.   If you do not receive information about the training or you have questions about ExamSoft, please call the IT Help Desk at 965-8181 or visit the Help Desk in the Law Library.
