Things to Do: Outdoor Activities/Sports

October is typically a beautiful month in the Phoenix/Tempe area, with sunny skies perfect for enjoying the outdoors. There are many options open for spending time outside while you are here for the conference.

Phoenix Zoo - With approximately 1,200 animals, birds, and reptiles housed on 125 acres, the Phoenix Zoo is great for animal lovers. Don't miss the Forest of Uco, which features a walk through a rain forest and views of spectacled bears.

Golf - You don't have to go far from ASU to find several nice golf courses. In fact, ASU is home to Karsten Golf Course, home to PGA star Phil Mickelson during his college years. Other nearby courses include:

Papago park 07

Hiking - Papago Park, which is about 2 miles from the Mission Palms, provides four easy-to-hike trails, including one up to the local favorite "Hole-in-the-Rock."

More hiking is available all over the Phoenix area:

Day Trips

If you have time, you might want to take a day trip out of the Phoenix area.  Here are some ideas:

Sporting Events

The Phoenix metro area is well-known for being a "sports town."  With professional sports teams in Major League Baseball (Arizona Diamondbacks), the NFL (Arizona Cardinals), NHL (Phoenix Coyotes), NBA (Phoenix Suns), WNBA (Phoenix Mercury), and amateur adult soccer league of USASA (Arizona Sahuaros), in addition to ASU Sun Devil sports, there are plenty of options if your idea of relaxing is attending a sporting event.  During the annual meeting, the Cardinals and Coyotes will be playing, and if we're lucky, the Diamondbacks will be in the playoffs.  The Sun Devil football team will be playing at home against the California Bears on October 27.
