Clinical Professor of Law Director, Legal Research & Writing Program
At the helm of the College’s nationally-ranked legal research and writing program is Judy Stinson, whose research and teaching focuses on Legal Method and Writing, Legal Research and Writing, Introduction to U.S. Law, Appellate Advocacy and Sexual Orientation and the Law. Professor Stinson has written extensively in the area of legal research and writing and has recently published the advanced text, The Tao of Legal Writing. (due in the fall.) She has given numerous presentations in the legal-writing arena, in addition to speaking about the rights of legal-writing faculty to academic freedom and contracts in same-sex relationships. Professor Stinson practiced law for six years before beginning her teaching career at the University of Illinois in the Legal Research and Writing Program and the Law Minority Access Program. She also served as assistant dean at Illinois. In 1997, she joined the College of Law, where she has served as director of the Legal Writing and Academic Success programs. She is the advisor for the Women Law Students’ Association and OUTLaw. Professor Stinson is president of the Association of Legal Writing Directors and a member of the Legal Writing Institute, and she is active in State Bar of Arizona committees.
