Art Hinshaw
Clinical Professor of Law
Director, Lodestar Dispute Resolution Program


Art Hinshaw’s research and teaching interests lie in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), primarily mediation and negotiation. His research melds ADR theory and practice and includes one of the first published empirical studies of a statewide ADR program in the United States. Professor Hinshaw’s teaching responsibilities include the Lodestar Mediation Clinic and Negotiation, among other ADR courses.

 

Professor Hinshaw is active in the state and national ADR community. He has served as Chair of the ABA Dispute Resolution Section’s Committee on Legal Education, and the Chair of the American Association of Law Schools Alternative Dispute Resolution Section, and is the only person who serves on the board of directors of Arizona’s two ADR professional organizations, the Arizona Bar’s Dispute Resolution Section (Treasurer) and the Arizona Association of Conflict Resolution. Professor Hinshaw also is on the Planning Committee for Project Civil Discourse, a statewide effort to provide insight on collaborative problem-solving techniques to enhance and improve public dialogue and discussion about the important issues that affect Arizona. He is a contributor to Indisputably, the ADR law professors’ blog.

 

Before joining the faculty, Professor Hinshaw taught at the University of Missouri School of Law and at the Washington University School of Law in St. Louis.  Prior to his academic career, he practiced law in Kansas City, Mo.
