IAP Structure and Services

The IAP is a partnership between two innovative student groups that provide essential services to Arizona’s inventors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, and technology transfer professionals.

Innovation Advancement Legal Clinic (IALC)

The IALC is a technology entrepreneurship and commercialization focused legal clinic at ASU SkySong, run by the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. The IALC provides legal services to clients through groups of law students that are assigned to each legal client.  The students are “Rule 38 certified,” which means that they are practicing attorneys while in the clinic.  This means that, while under supervision of the practicing attorneys of the IAP Faculty, they can provide direct legal services similar to what clients would receive from a law firm.  Additional supervision of student work is provided by the IAP’s Counsel in Residence, Hool Law Group.

Innovation Advancement Consulting (IAC)

The IAC is a technology entrepreneurship and commercialization focused consulting group at ASU SkySong, run by the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law. The IAC provides business planning and other management consulting services to clients through multi-disciplinary teams of students that are assigned to each consulting client. Students are supervised by IAP Faculty with business planning and consulting experience.  Additional supervision of student work is provided by the IAP’s Entrepreneur in Residence, The Idea Gardener.

Services Offered

Legal services are offered via the IALC.  Business planning and management consulting services are provided via the IAC.  Entrepreneurs, inventors, and startup ventures can be clients of either the IAC, the IALC, or both – depending on the IAP Faculty’s client selection decision process.
