Canadian Law (North American Law Degree)

The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law has created the North American Law DegreeTM, a unique JD that will prepare students to seek bar admission in the United States and Canada without requiring further coursework.  Students pursuing a program in North American LawTM may earn either a North American JDTM or a North American LLMTM

ASU’s North American Law DegreeTM will include:

  • A comprehensive curriculum in Canadian law
  • A three-year program that seeks to fulfill all substantive JD bar requirements in common-law Canada and the U.S.
  • The ability for third-year students to take the Arizona bar exam in their final semester and focus on the licensure process in Canada immediately after graduation
  • Unparalleled experiential learning opportunities through clinics and externships
  • A JD from one of North America’s most respected law schools

"As a dual citizen of the U.S. and Canada, I have seen firsthand the benefits of obtaining higher education and skills that are applicable to the legal and business environments in each country. Establishing a program that will prepare lawyers to apply for practice in both jurisdictions is long overdue."

- Douglas Sylvester, Dean of the Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law
