The Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University is offering recorded, online CLE seminars for whatever price the user wants to pay. The “pay what you want” format will stay in effect from May 23, 2014 to June 30, 2014.
ASU’s CLE Program offers timely and topical seminars taught by experienced practitioners in a face-to-face or synchronous webinar formats. Beginning the Friday of Memorial Day weekend, however, recorded versions of these seminars will be available for legal professionals to complete their yearly education requirements in a “pay what you want” format. All proceeds from the online programs will support student scholarships.
“Making our CLE Program accessible online extends our reach and connection with the legal community, beyond the Phoenix-metro area and the state of Arizona,” said Dean Douglas Sylvester. “We are excited to be able to share our valuable programming with attorneys across the state, especially our alums. This is also an opportunity for the College of Law to help out with CLE costs during a time when the legal marketplace is still recovering from the recent economic downturn. ”
“I get a lot of feedback from participants about how expensive fulfilling yearly CLE requirements are so we would like to meet the needs of the legal community while giving them an opportunity to support scholarships if they so choose. As law school becomes more expensive, these scholarships help ASU continue to attract the best and brightest students and limit their law school debt,” said Sandra Macdonald, Director of the CLE Program.
Macdonald said making online courses easily accessible for busy professionals allows the College of Law to share its valuable resources with a broader audience.
“Our online courses are a convenient tool for them to stay current in their practice areas, by learning from leading experts,” Macdonald said. “We hope attorneys from around the state will utilize our online catalog of courses to fulfill their CLE requirements and to gain new knowledge in important areas of the law.”
