Integrity

Words & music by
Scott B. Seymann

This is for the Honorable Bruce Cohen
And let's not forget his lovely wife
A little word or two about integrity
And how it affects my life
Nowhere is it written that an essay can't be a song
And besides it meets the requirement
Cause it's exactly two pages long

INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
Every day I face new challenges
Integrity is what gets me by

Well a man asked me for a dollar
Just because I was wearing a tie
Said he was a little short on bus fare
And I was thinking "buddy, nice try"

Then integrity came knockin'
Said "hey man, maybe it's true"
Why don't you treat a brother like
You'd want him to treat you

INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
Every day I face new challenges
Integrity is what gets me by

See that woman in the courtroom
She's about to testify
Swore to tell truth, the whole truth, nothin' but
Don't mean she won't lie

Just to send that migrant worker
Back to shanty town where he belongs
If only I can get through law school
I can help to right these wrongs

INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
Every day I face new challenges
Integrity is what gets me by

There's compromise in the classroom
And lots more overseas
0ur leaders steal and cheat and lie
And it spreads like a disease

If our kids become a product
Of environment devoid
Of integrity this land of the free
May seldom be enjoyed

INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
Every day I face new challenges
Integrity is what gets me by

Well I don't get no satisfaction
From big houses or fancy cars
In a lifeboat or on a battlefield
They won't get you very far

I just want to be remembered
For the one thing I can't lose
In a fire a flood or a lawsuit
And no judge can ever recuse

INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
INT - EGR - I - T - Y oh why
Whenever I face a challenge
On one thing I know I can rely
I-N-T-E-G-R-I-T-Y
