Law school bids farewell to Frankie
Frankie Gutierrez and Allan Crouch share a light
moment at Frankie's going-away party.
About 40 faculty and staff members and students gave Frankie Gutierrez, the College of Law’s beloved custodian, a standing ovation during a going-away party in his honor on Friday, Nov. 2.
Gutierrez, a familiar face around the College for nearly two years, has been transferred to a job in ASU’s Student Services Center.
In addition to a huge greeting card, the only size that would contain the many expressions of love and respect for him, Gutierrez received a Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law cap, a box of Belgian chocolates and a $450 gift card from a collection that was taken by Allan Crouch, Gutierrez’s friend and the College’s maintenance mechanic, who organized the party.
Gutierrez was clearly surprised and touched by the gestures.
“I was very close to crying,” he said.
Gutierrez said he received one of the highest compliments ever from Dean Patricia White, who told him she appreciated his great work at the College of Law.
“I love the people here,” he said. “It was a great honor to see Sandra Day O’Connor and to shake hands with Raul Castro (Arizona’s only Hispanic governor). I’ll take that with me forever.”
A huge ASU sports fan, who always wears an ASU hat and t-shirt, Gutierrez said he would depart from his traditional dress code at his new job.
“I’m going to wear my Sandra Day O’Connor shirt, just to let them know where I come from,” he said.
