Presiding Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Barbara Rodriguez Mundell, an '81 alumna of the College of Law, recently was presented the Mark Santana Law-Related Education Award by the Arizona Foundation for Legal Services and Education, the June 2009 edition of Maricopa Lawyer reports.
The award is named for Judge Mark Santana, a legal scholar who was known for being upbeat, friendly and soft-spoken, and served on the Maricopa Superior Court for five years. The award recognizes exceptional contributions of Arizona attorneys or law firms in furthering education and understanding of the role of the law in our democratic society. This award focuses on public awareness on the contributions that attorneys provide to the community.
Mundell was selected to receive the award for her support of law-related education in many forms throughout the years. Mundel has served as the spokesperson for the State Bar's Law Day contest, created a Spanish-speaking DUI court that graduates more offenders than other similar courts, and established a Director of Community Outreach post that facilitates education of the public and feedback from the community.
