Gammage is a part-time academic, a practicing lawyer, an author, a sometime real estate developer and a former elected official. He is a senior fellow at ASU's Morrison Institute, where his work focuses on urban growth and development, quality of life, and local economic issues. He also teaches at the College of Law and at the College of Architecture and Environmental Design.

He has extensive experience in both federal and state courts in a wide variety of cases, including antitrust and trade regulation cases, product liability cases, insurance coverage and insurance bad faith cases, class actions, securities cases, sports cases, and various other complex commercial cases.
