Aaron Fellmeth

The American Society of International Law has published an article by Professor Aaron Fellmeth about the draft of a controversial intellectual property law treaty in its June 24, 2010, edition of Insights.

The article, “The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement in the Public Eye,” states that ACTA is one of the most controversial treaties negotiated by the United States, despite assurances by the U.S. Trade Representative that no changes to existing statutes will be required. In his piece, Fellmeth discusses the procedural and substantive sources of the controversy and summarizes the most important provisions of the ACTA draft.

Fellmeth is a Faculty Fellow in the College’s Center for Law and Global Affairs and the Center for Law, Science & Innovation, and he is co-chair of the ASIL Intellectual Property Law Interest Group. He has studied international law from an interdisciplinary perspective since 1991, and his research and teaching focus on international law jurisprudence and the formation of rules of customary international law in contested subjects, such as evolving human rights issues, espionage and covert action, psychological manipulation, new technologies in conventional and asymmetrical armed conflict, and the internationalization of intellectual property rights. Fellmeth also is a leading expert on the law and regulation of international business transactions and intellectual property with a special focus on patent law and technology. He teaches Public International Law, International Business Transactions, Research Methods in International Law, International Trade Law and Patent Law.
