‘Arizona Republic’ quotes C. Hessick on expedited appeal
07/30/2010
Carissa B. Hessick
An article in the July 29 edition of
The Arizona Republic
, in which legal experts discussed alternatives to settling Arizona’s dispute with the federal government over the state’s new immigration law, included comments from Associate Professor
Carissa Byrne Hessick
.
In the article, “Arizona will file expedited appeal to lift SB 1070,” by reporters Craig Harris, Alia Rau and Ginger Rough, Hessick said a ruling by the three-member appellate panel on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit could be appealed to a larger group of justices in the circuit.
She said that it is rare in most appeals courts, but the 9th Circuit has been more willing to do it. Such a ruling could then be appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
