‘Republic’ quotes Bender on gay-marriage ruling

An article in the Aug. 5 edition of The Arizona Republic, “California gay-marriage ruling could upend Arizona ban,” included comments from Professor and Dean Emeritus Paul Bender.

Reporter Casey Newton wrote about Chief U.S. District Judge Vaughn Walker’s decision to overturn California’s ban on same-sex marriage. The ban in California and in other states, including Arizona, eventually could be upheld by the U.S .Supreme Court, Newton reported.

“That holding would probably strike down gay-marriage bans in every state,” Bender said.
