Michael Berch

Professor Michael Berch will participate in two panel discussions at the Kansas Law Review 2010 Symposium, “State Constitutional Law Steps Out of the Shadows,” on Friday, Nov. 12, at the University of Kansas School of Law in Lawrence.

Berch, the Alan A. Matheson Professor of Law, will present his paper, “A proposal altering the standard and practice when state appellate courts should consider unraised state constitutional issues in criminal proceedings,” during the panel, “Dual Sovereignty and State Constitutions.” He will be joined on the panel by, among others, Rebecca White Berch (Class of 1979), Chief Justice of the Arizona Supreme Court.

Michael Berch also will sit on a symposium panel, “Criminal Procedure and Search & Seizure.”

In addition to his teaching at the College of Law, Berch is an Honors Disciplinary Faculty member of Barrett, The Honors College at ASU. Since 1969, he has taught a wide variety of courses, including Federal Courts, Civil Procedure, Conflict of Laws, Law and the Regulatory State and Professional Responsibility. He has coached many of ASU’s winning Moot Court teams and has written extensively.
