James G. Hodge, Jr.

James G. Hodge Jr., the ASU Lincoln Professor of Health Law and Ethics and director of the law school’s Public Health Law and Policy Program (PHLPP), will be a speaker at the American Public Health Association’s annual meeting, Nov. 6-10, in Denver.

Hodge will present the talk, “Assessing the legal environment for the deployment and use of personnel to provide mental and behavioral health services during emergencies,” on Monday, Nov. 8.

The session that Hodge is participating in examines the needs of vulnerable populations when they are most at-risk, during emergency situations, describing significant legal and policy concerns that arise during emergencies for mental and behavioral health providers. Panelists will discuss the characteristics, needs, challenges, and best-practices needed to involve and serve vulnerable communities before, during and after a disaster.

Through scholarly and applied work, Hodge delves into multiple areas of public health law, global health law, ethics and human rights. He teaches Health Law, Ethics, and Policy, Public Health Law and Ethics, and Global Health Law and Policy. Hodge also is a Faculty Fellow in the Center for Law, Science & Innovation, and an Affiliate Professor, Global Health, in the School of Human Evolution & Social Change at ASU.
