Buel and Shufeldt co-present at Mayo Medical Center
12/15/2010
Professor Sarah Buel at Mayo Medical Center
Sarah Buel
, Director of the Diane Halle Center for Family Justice at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, recently gave a presentation on Intimate Partner Violence: The Role of Physicians, Dentists & Mental Health Practitioners at the Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn.
Buel was joined for the Dec. 7 presentation by Dr. John Shufeldt, who has M.D., J.D. and MBA degrees, and who founded NextCare Inc.
The four-hour presentation was based on material that Buel has taught at Harvard Medical School for the past 20 years, including epidemiology, legal aspects of domestic violence, clinical aspects of domestic violence and a multidisciplinary approach to domestic violence.
Buel, who NBC has called one of the five most inspiring women in America, is the founding faculty director of the Halle Center, which houses the NextCare Urgent Care Family Violence Legal Clinic.
A survivor of domestic violence herself, Buel has worked for more than 30 years with battered women and children.
Shufeldt founded NextCare Urgent Care in 1993. It is the largest privately held urgent care system in the United States with twenty-eight locations in four states.
He has authored and co-authored books on Children’s Emergencies and Contract Issues for Emergency Medicine Physicians.
