Cruz interviewed by ‘Daily Journal’
An article, “Arizona Immigration Law Passes Muster,” in the May 25 edition of the
included an interview with Clinical Professor
, Director of the College of Law’s Immigration Law & Policy Clinic.
Reporter Robert Iafolla wrote about a decision by the U.S. Supreme Court to uphold an Arizona law that punishes businesses for employing undocumented immigrants. The high court found that federal does not pre-empt the state’s employer sanctions law.
“What the court said was that Arizona can create its own workplace law,” Cruz said. “It didn’t say employers have carte blanche in their hiring practices.”

Cruz teaches Immigration Law and Comprehensive Law Practice, and she directs a clinic at the College that represents unaccompanied minors in immigration removal proceedings. She received the 2007 President’s Medal for Social Embeddedness at ASU. Cruz writes articles about immigration law, clinical education and therapeutic jurisprudence, and has co-authored several immigration law manuals used by immigration practitioners and pro-se detainees at Immigration Detention Centers throughout the country.
