Foundation Professor of Law Robert Clinton was quoted in a June 5 article in The Arizona Republic, “For-profit schools shadowed by inquiries,” by reporter Jahna Berry.

The article looked at how probes of for-profit schools that have been launched by various state attorneys general around the country might have consequences in Arizona for such schools, their students, employees and other stakeholders. Although the U.S. Department of Education has reviewed the for-profit industry, some of the rules it must follow have been softened or delayed due to effective lobbying, Berry wrote.

Clinton said state and federal officials often investigate the same companies or industries. While the Department of Education’s powers focus more on the way schools use financial aid, attorneys general have the ability to focus directly on consumer protection, he said.
