James G. Hodge Jr.

James G. Hodge Jr., the ASU Lincoln Professor of Health Law and Ethics at the College of Law has written the lead article for the Spring 2011 symposium issue of The Journal of Law, Medicine & Ethics.

The article, “Connecting public health law, practice, policy, and research,” is part of a symposium issue that was devoted to the reconvening of the first national public health law conference since 2006, held in September 2010 in Atlanta. Hodge also organized and edited the issue.

“The overarching vision for this conference was to build the field of public health law by (1) bridging these knowledge gaps across jurisdictions; (2) defining (and proving) the role of law as a primary and practical tool to improve population-based health outcomes, and (3) developing a modern public health law infrastructure for the 21st century,” Hodge writes.

Hodge is Director of the Public Health Law and Policy Program at the College of Law. Through scholarly and applied work, he delves into multiple areas of public health law, global health law, ethics and human rights. Hodge teaches Health Law, Ethics, and Policy, Public Health Law and Ethics, and Global Health Law and Policy. In September 2010, he was named Director of the Public Health Law Network - Western Region. He is a Faculty Fellow in the law school’s Center for Law, Science & Innovation, and an affiliate faculty member in the Global Health program in ASU’s School of Human Evolution & Social Change.
