Regents’ Professor of Law and Psychology Michael Saks will participate in a forensic science panel for judges during the 2011 annual meeting of the American Bar Association, Aug. 4-9, in Toronto. He is the lone non-judge seated on the panel, “CSI Toronto: The Role of the Court in an Age of Developing Science & Technology,” on Friday, Aug. 5.

 

Saks will be joined on the panel, moderated by Judge David J. Waxse, a magistrate in U.S. District Court in Kansas City, Kan., by Judge Stephanie Domitrovich, of the Eric County (Pa.) Court of Common Pleas, Judge Nancy Gertner, of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, and Judge Stephen T. Goudge, of the Court of Appeal for Ontario.

 

Saks’ research focuses on empirical studies of the legal system, especially decision-making, the behavior of the litigation system and the law’s use of science. A Faculty Fellow in the Center for Law, Science & Innovation, he is the fourth most-cited law-and-social-science scholar in the U.S., and has authored approximately 200 articles and books. Courses he has taught include criminal law, evidence, law and science, property and torts.
