The Arizona State Law Journal will host its second Remands Symposium, which will feature discussion

and debate from law professors by universities all over the country. It will be held on Friday, March 2, from 9 a.m.- 2 p.m. in the Great Hall in Armstrong Hall.

In 2004, the Arizona State Law Journal published a Symposium Issue covering the impact of remand orders on American jurisprudence. Due to the issue’s popularity, the Journal will devote its Fall 2012 issue to revisiting the topic. The symposium will address new concerns about the subject and relationship between higher and lower tribunals.

Michael Berch, the Emeritus Alan A. Matheson Professor of Law, said the symposium will focus on placing in perspective the role of the appellate courts in issuing, and lower courts in obeying, orders that remand cases for further proceedings.

“This is fascinating stuff that canvasses the whole range of the law and its proceedings,” Berch said.

The conference will be moderated by Professor Paul Bender and Arizona Supreme Court Justice W. Scott Bales. It will feature several presenters and contributors, including the College of Law’s Professor Robert Clinton and Jon Sands, the Federal Public Defender from the District of Arizona.
