One of the most respected scientific journals in the world, Science magazine, reported on a recent conference in Phoenix, "Personalized Medicine in the Clinic: Legal, Policy, and Ethical Implications," co-sponsored by the College of Law's Center for Law, Science & Innovation.

The March 26 article, by correspondent Becky Ham, quotes Professor Gary Marchant as saying many physicians who are unfamiliar with genetics soon may have patients who want genetic data incorporated into their treatment decisions.

"Health care professionals are likely the most vulnerable to liability risks associated with personalized medicine," said Marchant, the Center's Executive Director, and the ASU Lincoln Professor of Emerging Technologies, Law and Ethics.

The conference, held March 8-9, was co-sponsored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), Mayo Clinic and the Food and Drug Law Institute.
