Hessick and students on KTVK-TV
Carissa Byrne Hessick
Professor
Carissa Byrne Hessick
and some of the students in her Criminal Procedure course were interviewed and filmed on Wednesday, Nov. 19, by a reporter and videographer from KTVK-TV.
In a segment airing that night, reporter Tyler Baldwin talked about discussions law students are having about the recent arrest of an 8-year-old-boy who was interrogated by police and charged with the murder of his father and another man at his home in St. Johns. The boy initially was brought in as a victim, but according to media reports, the boy confessed after a lengthy questioning, without a parent or attorney in the room.
"Show of hands: who thinks that voluntariness might be a problem?" Hessick asked her students, referring to boy's alleged confession. All of Hessick's students raised their hands.
"The students in this class have been very interested in this case," she said.
