An article at law360.com about whether intellectual property is likely to be on President-Elect Barack Obama's priority list, and how effectively he will be able to address enforcement issues abroad, featured comments by Professor Aaron Fellmeth.
In "Lawyers Don't Expect Big IP Changes Under Obama," by Jocelyn Allison, Fellmeth said it's doubtful that Obama, or any other president, would have enough leverage to compel China to enforce IP. He predicted Obama's apparent skepticism of bilateral trade agreements will slow the creation of such agreements and, in turn, the proliferation of U.S.-style IP protections abroad.
"We might slow down in terms of expanding the U.S. style of intellectual property protection to other countries, but we're not going to move backward or change the fact that we have core agreements in place that give American companies most of what they would ever want to get," Fellmeth said.
