Berman essay published in `Legal Times'
Paul Berman
Paul Schiff Berman
A glimpse of Dean Paul Schiff Berman 's vision for transforming the College of Law into the `gold standard' for 21st century public legal education was published in the Sept. 1 edition of Legal Times.
Berman's essay, "Be Broad in Scope and Disciplines," advocates the need to expand society's access to and opportunities at state-run law schools while improving their scholarship, academic excellence and global contributions.
"Legal education is at a crossroads," Berman writes in the Washington, D.C., weekly newspaper. "Amid increased competition for faculty, students, and prestige, public institutions could become permanent second-class citizens in the law school hierarchy, signaling an end to a great experiment in social opportunity and multicultural democracy."
He recommends three initiatives - broadening the scope of legal training, reshaping curriculum and engaging in transdisciplinary legal education. To read more about them, click here .
