Sigler interviewed by KFYI radio

Sigler interviewed by KFYI radio
Professor Mary Sigler recently was interviewed by KFYI radio station's Bob Bennett about the possible charges former New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer may be facing due to allegations that he has been involved with call girls.
Sigler said it is possible that Spitzer could be prosecuted under the Mann Act, though it's unlikely. She explained that the Mann act is an "obscure law from 100 years ago" that forbids the interstate transportation of women for prostitution, debauchery or immoral purposes. "It's possible that he's guilty under that [the Mann Act] because the young woman apparently traveled from New York to Washington, D.C., and he funded at least part of that trip, or apparently did so."
Apparently, Sigler said, it's rare that a prostitute's customer is prosecuted by authorities for soliciting sexual services. Our society expects that, "It's sort of the woman's role to keep men moral, and men can't be expected to do that. So, the punishment then perhaps would follow that expectation," Sigler said.
It's possible that Spitzer may be prosecuted under both New York and Washington jurisdictions for misuse of campaign funds in connection with his alleged meetings with prostitutes.
