Two professors speak at federal court conference

Two College of Law professors will speak at the 2010 District of Arizona Federal District Court Conference on Friday, Feb. 12, at the Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel, 340 N. Third St., Phoenix.

Art Hinshaw, director of the Lodestar Dispute Resolution Program, will give a presentation on Ethics: Negotiation.

Robert D. Bartels, Charles M. Brewer Professor of Trial Advocacy, will give an update on recent U.S. Supreme Court cases.

Hinshaw's research and teaching interests lie in the field of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), primarily mediation and negotiation. His research melds ADR theory and practice and includes one of the first published empirical studies of a statewide ADR program in the United States. Hinshaw's teaching responsibilities include the Lodestar Mediation Clinic and Negotiation, among other ADR courses.

Robert D. Bartels
Bartels has taught a variety of courses, including Fact Investigation, Evidence, Governmental Protection of Civil Rights, Trial Advocacy, Environmental Law, Civil Procedure and the Civil Justice Clinic. He has litigated more than 300 civil and criminal cases in various state and federal courts, including four oral arguments in the U.S. Supreme Court, and he currently handles criminal cases for the Arizona Justice Project at the College.
