Hessick to discuss ineffective counsel at national conference

Professor Carissa Byrne Hessick of the College of Law will present a paper, "Ineffective Assistance of Counsel at Sentencing" at a panel on criminal law at the Law and Society conference in Denver in May.

The paper is going to be published in the Boston College Law Review later this year.

Hessick also will present a second paper, "Punishing Kiddie Porn," at the same conference.

Hessick teaches Criminal Procedure, Criminal Law, and a seminar on sentencing law and policy. Her research focuses on aggravation and mitigation in criminal sentencing, relative crime severity, and other political and doctrinal issues associated with sentencing. She recently published an article in the Boston University Law Review on aggravating and mitigating sentencing factors, as well as an article in the Alabama Law Review on appellate standards of review for federal sentencing decisions.
