Professor Ira Ellman will be speaking on a panel, "Court of Public Opinion," as part of the 28th Annual Conference of the Arizona Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, which will be held Friday, Jan. 30, through Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Hilton Sedona Resort and Spa.

Ellman, a Willard H. Pedrick Distinguished Research Scholar and Affiliate Professor of Psychology, will be presenting findings from a study of how Arizona citizens think about  family law issues. He conducted the study with two psychologists who will also be presenting on the same panel.

Ellman 's presentation will focus on child support issues, like:

  • What do citizens believe are the appropriate dollar amounts of child support payments?
  • How do their views compare to the support payments in fact fixed by the laws in Arizona and other states?
  • What principles of support are implied by the dollar amounts they favor?
  • How do the views of men and women compare to one another?

The panel will be moderated by Judge Bruce R. Cohen of the Maricopa County Superior Court. The other panelists are William Fabricius and Sanford Braver, both psychology professors at Arizona State University.
