Clinical Professor Evelyn Cruz, Director of the Immigration Law and Policy Center, was interviewed by Reuters on Monday, June 25, about the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision on Arizona’s controversial immigration-enforcement law.

In an article entitled, “High court splits its verdict on Arizona immigration law,” Cruz told reporter Drew Singer that if Arizona police hold illegal immigrants, they cannot deport them unless they also broke a state law. Before the ruling, a joint state-federal task force of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security had given Arizona authority to enforce federal immigration. This authority was rescinded after the court’s decision was announced.
