Gary Marchant

ASU Regents’ Professor Gary Marchant, the Lincoln Professor of Emerging Technologies, Law and Ethics, addressed the Oklahoma Judicial Conference, Nov. 13-15, in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Marchant presented a plenary session, “Emerging Technologies and the Future of Law,” and also gave a talk on “The Adolescent Brain and Society.” As Faculty Director of the College of Law’s Center for Law, Science & Innovation, he has traveled the country educating thousands of judges at dozens of conferences about the benefits and challenges of emerging technologies in the justice system.

Marchant’s research interests include the use of genetic information in environmental regulation, risk and the precautionary principle, legal aspects of personalized medicine, and regulation of emerging technologies such as nanotechnology, neuroscience and biotechnology. He teaches courses in Environmental Law, Law, Science & Technology, Genetics and the Law, Biotechnology: Science, Law and Policy, and Nanotechnology Law & Policy. Marchant is a Senior Sustainability Scientist in the ASU Global Institute of Sustainability, and a professor in ASU’s School of Life Sciences.
