‘State Press’ reports Sylvester appointment

An article in the March 27 ASU State Press quotes the new Dean of the College of Law, Douglas
Douglas Sylvester
Sylvester, as saying he looks forward to moving an already excellent school into the future.

“I want to be part of an institution that had all of the pieces in place – great faculty, great students, great alumni,” he said. “That’s ASU.”

Sylvester, who on March 26 was appointed by President Michael M. Crow to the dean’s post after serving as interim for nearly a year, told reporter Kharli Mandeville about his plans to raise funds for scholarships for students and to help place graduates in jobs.

Sylvester is a Professor of Law and Faculty Fellow in the Center’ for Law, Science & Innovation, and previously served as Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Development. During his time as interim dean, the College of Law’s national academic rankings have improved significantly, from 40th in the 2012 U.S News & World Report survey to 26th in the recently released 2013 survey.
