M.D./J.D. students recognized on Fox News
Four College of Law students were recognized in a July 18 report on Fox 10 News, for their dual majors at the law school and Mayo Medical School in Rochester, Minn.
The M.D./J.D. program is a joint effort started in 2005 between ASU and Mayo. The program requires two years of medical school at Mayo, two years of law courses at the College of Law, then two final years of medical school, making it possible to graduate one year earlier than it would take to acquire both degrees separately.
One of the M.D./J.D. students, Joshua Faucher, said he was interested in health policy going into Mayo, but the curriculum there doesn’t address the legal side of health care.
“In medical school, we spend so much time learning the science, treatment and diagnosis, that we don’t have enough time to talk about the problems in the American health care system,” Faucher said.
Fox reporter Jessica Flores said the majority of the law-medical students she interviewed ultimately want to become doctors.
