Professors David Kader, Charles Calleros and Daniel Rothenberg, along with U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor (ret.), all are participating in a 16-day exchange program for students from Azerbaijan hosted by ASU in September.

Azerbaijan is the largest country in the Caucasus region located between Western Asia and Eastern Europe. The students will be arriving on Sept. 6, and will participate in activities and attend lectures given by various professors.

Kader will speak to the group on religion, diversity, ways in which the U.S. Constitution protects religious diversity, and whether the issue of religion divides Americans.

As a Faculty Affiliate for the ASU Center for the Study of Religion and Conflict, Kader teaches in the areas of criminal procedure, torts, state constitutional law and religion and the Constitution.

Calleros will give a talk titled, “Become an Advocate for Justice,” focusing on the intersection of race and gender discrimination and free speech.

Calleros’ research interests include international and comparative contract law; international conflict of laws, the intersection of free speech with race and gender discrimination, and various issues regarding legal education.

O’Connor will present the iCivics project, a program she founded to reverse Americans’ declining civic knowledge and participation and discuss the U.S. political system.

Rothenberg will give a presentation and lead a discussion.

Rothenberg, Executive Director of the Center for Law and Global Affairs, has more than 15 years of experience combining field research, project management and scholarship on international human rights and the rule of law.
