Jennine Marie Ihde was awarded this year’s Mary M. Schroeder Public Interest Prize. This endowed award was established by the College of Law on the occasion of the Honorable Mary M. Schroeder stepping down as Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and to commemorate her 30 years of devoted service to the 9th Circuit and the greater legal community. The award is one of the College of Law’s highest honors, and each year’s recipients must exhibit a level of dedication to public service, including intent to practice public interest law post-graduation.

Jennine graduated cum laude with a B.A. in history from California State University, Northridge.  While attending the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at ASU Jennine’s dedication to public interest work was well known by her classmates and the law school at large. She participated in many public interest organizations and served as Assistant Director for the Homeless Legal Assistance Project (HLAP), Treasurer of the Junior Legal Assistance Project, and Vice President of the Pro Bono Board. She also served as an Associate Editor of the Arizona State Law Journal.

Jennine’s achievements were recognized through numerous awards and honors including Outstanding Student Volunteer for HLAP, First Year Student Pro Bono Achievement Award, Pedrick Scholar, Pro Bono High Distinction, and the Quarles & Brady Equal Justice Conference Scholarship.  Jennine’s public interest work also extended beyond the law school. In addition to externships with Community Legal Services, the Office of the Public Advocate, and Judge Colleen McNally, she actively served her community by her participation in both the Public Defender Clinic and the Juvenile Advocacy Clinic.

Jennine is currently a law clerk for the Maricopa County Public Defender’s Office, where she hopes to continue her career of public service following admission to the Arizona bar.
