Student Technology Support

The Help Desk provides support for many parts of the College.
Our Hours are: 8am to 5pm Monday through Friday
Phone: 480-965-8181
Email: Law-q@asu.edu (This will generate a help ticket to us)

Printing

There are 3 printers for student use. They are located in the Computer Lab on the first floor of the Law Library (Room 117) .
Connecting from your Laptop

Software required to print using a PC:
Connection Manager for PC

Printing is not available for Macs at this time.  You can use a computer in the lab to print.

Policies and Cost
There is a single annual charge for using Examsoft and Printing.
The charge is $50 per year(Starting August 1st to July 31st the next year). You are given 300 pages before extra printing charges are incurred(10 cents per additional).
Billing is usually one semester behind so you will usually see it around January.

Here is the Full page on Printing Policies and Fees.

If a printer jams or toner makes your pages unreadable, We will credit you for the pages. Bring the top sheet(has user ID and time on it) to the Help Desk. Crediting is done at the end of the semester but before billing.

Can't Print from you laptop anymore?
First, try adding the printers to your computer again. This refreshes the laptops printer information.
You may need to change your ASU Password if that did not resolve the issue.

H Drive/O Drive

The H Drive is your personal space at the College of Law. It is very secure and constantly backed up. We HIGHLY recommend saving your notes and documents to it as a back up. Laptops can crash and you do not want to go without notes right before an Exam!

The O Drive is the shared drive for Clinics, Journals, and Student Groups. You will only have access to this if you are part of a student group and is given manually. Ask your group leader about access if you cannot get into the group folder.

You can connect to the H and O drive through Connection Manager if you have a PC. If you have a MAC, follow these directions

Computer Lab

The computer lab is located on the first floor of the Law Library in Room 117. It is for current students only. All computers have access to your H & O drive, Internet, Microsoft Office, and special applications like WestLaw. There are two computers in the Lab which also have Scanners and Adobe Professional.

Can't Log into the computers?
First make sure the Domain option(Third box down on the log in screen) is set to "ASUAD".
If that doesn't work, Try changing your ASU Password. This is a common issue if you just started school or if it has been 6 months since the last password change.
If this still doesn't correct the issue, stop by the Help Desk. There may be a different account you are suppose to use.

Examsoft (SoftTest)

Examsoft "SoftTest" is the software we use for final exams. It is required if you want to use a computer.
Here is an in depth page about it's requirements, installation, and terms of use.

There is a $50 charge associated with using this per year. This charge is part of the fee mentioned above in the printing section. It is not $50 for examsoft and $50 for Printing. It's just one $50 fee per year.

Need your ID or Password for Examsoft?
You can get them from LawInteractive

SoftTest works on Windows XP, Vista, 7, and Mac SnowLeopard.

Requesting Equipment

Some times you may need a piece of equipment for a presentation or student organized event.

We have Portable PA systems, projectors, and projector screens, and video cameras available for use. Please contact the Help Desk so we can determine if the equipment is available for your event. You will be responsible for any item we loan to you until it is returned. Damage or theft  of items must be reported immediately.

Virus/Spyware

We understand Viruses and Spyware are becoming a wide spread issue. They are harmful to the computer and your informations security. The Help Desk will help you to clean your computer, but we do not gaurantee the service. Depending on severity of the infection, you may need to take it to a professional.
Here is some helpful information about Spyware/Virus Prevention

Recommended Computers/OS

The College of Law supports primarily Dell laptops. We have the most knowledge of their laptops over other companies. We can help with other manufacturer laptops but our main knowledge is Dell.

We recommend Windows 7 Home Professional or higher. Windows 7 Home Basic may not function with all applications. If you have Windows Vista, we recommend upgrading to 7. It has fixed many bugs assicated with Vista.

We have limited support for Mac laptops. We can try to help resolve issues but may have to refer you to a "Mac Genius".
