Elvis Sulejmani: Working to rebuild democracy and rule of law
Elvis Sulejmani
Elvis Sulejmani earned his bachelor’s degree in general law studies from the University of Tirana in Albania in 2009, and is pursuing an LL.M. in international law.
“I believe in the name of Sandra Day O’Connor and her valuable contribution to common law and the international law community,” Sulejmani said. “The Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law gives me the best possibility to advance in this field. The opportunity to study in this university is a big step toward my dream.”
Sulejmani said he wants to contribute to state-building policies in countries that need international community knowledge, experience and assistance to rebuild their judicial systems, and to meet international standards and respect human rights.
“During the years that I have studied in the faculty of law in Albania, I have been engaged in several European Union programs regarding human rights and educating the law community to know, understand and respect the standards requested by the EU,” Sulejmani said. “My passion for international law, history and foreign affairs prompted me to choose the international law LL.M. program at the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law.”
“My favorite part of the program is the opportunity to learn the concepts and methodology of common law,” he said. “Coming from a civil law system, this is essential because it widens the knowledge of this system, helping to better understand the diversity of international law.”
Sulejmani said professors, staff and students at the College of Law create a friendly, welcoming environment.
“You have the opportunity to get to know people who have deeply contributed with their knowledge and work to the entire U.S law system.”
