Exchange Programs

The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law has an established law student exchange program with the Universita Bocconi School of Law (Milan, Italy).

Educational Objective

Arizona State University as an institution recognizes the growing importance of international study for well-educated students as evidenced by its' goal to increase student study abroad in the coming years. "To become a master learner in the 21st century, our students need global experiences”, said Mark Searle, executive vice president and university provost. “Traveling, experiencing new cultures, and building relationships with people from other countries are skills that are critical to our shared future.”

Eligibility

To be eligible to participate in the law student exchange program, students must be in good academic standing, must be in their third year (3L) or second semester of their second year (2L) of law studies and must be approved for exchange study by the College of Law. Students who have transferred to the ASU College of Law are not eligible to apply for an exchange program until they have completed a minimum of 12 credits of ASU law school work. Note that per College of Law policy a maximum of 15 study abroad credits can be applied to the J.D. degree.

In addition to the cultural and educational benefits of an exchange program, the financial benefit is that Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law students participating in the program pay the tuition and fees for ASU, not for the exchange institution. However, space in each exchange program is limited and the College of Law may not be able to accommodate participation by all eligible students in a given semester.

Application

Students interested in being considered for an exchange program must submit the following application materials:

  • a letter of interest which should include your educational objectives for studying abroad
  • a current law school transcript
  • a current resume

Application materials should be submitted to Diana Bowman (BCLS 224) or email diana.bowman@asu.edu.
