At first blush, the link between art and law may not be obvious—but a closer look reveals unexpected insights. It has been said that “art cannot exist without an audience.” Similarly, law without a community has no purpose. Law requires a community—citizens to seek, a system to serve, and lawyers to promote justice. But practicing law is more art than science, and great lawyers don’t “paint by numbers.” They are masters of their craft, interpreting and transforming the law to serve their clients and their communities. At the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law, we educate, train, and graduate lawyers who understand that law is an art. On September 19, we ask you to join us at the 2014 Gold ‘n Gavel Auction and Reception at the Phoenix Art Museum and become a patron of artful attorneys.
