On behalf of the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, we want to thank you for your participation in our second annual Gold ’n Gavel Auction and Reception.
For those who attended last year, we thank you again for a great evening and for helping us raise nearly $70,000 to support our students. This year was an even bigger success! We were honored, once again, to have Justice Sandra Day O’Connor join us, along with many other luminaries and friends of the College. All told, approximately 400 people turned out for food, fun, and a lot of great auction items. We have so much to celebrate!
Congratulations again to John Karalis, our inaugural Amicus Award winner, for 30 years of support for Law, Science & Innovation and for his generosity in helping us to create the John Karalis Foresight Through Hindsight Project. Thanks to Pat McGroder for his gracious—and funny—introduction of this year’s Gold ‘n Gavel Alumni Public Service Award winner, Grant Woods. Grant’s support of the College, including chairing our Building the Future Campaign Law Committee, is just a small example of his extraordinary public service. Congratulations again, Grant.
Finally, the night featured some great surprises. Justice Rebecca Berch was recognized for her recent ASU Alumni Service Award—the highest alumni honor ASU bestows. Congratulations! We also announced that Leo and Annette Beus have just made the largest donation in College history—$10 million! Thanks so much, Leo and Annette!
And thanks to all of you. Through your support and generosity, we raised $115,000 in support of our students. We believe next year’s event will raise the bar even higher—in attendance, support, and good times!
Stay tuned for announcements about next year’s Gold ‘n Gavel. We hope to see you there. In the meantime, continue to practice the “Art of Law!”
