Teaching law firm featured in 'Inside Higher Education'
06/26/2012
Douglas Sylvester
The nonprofit teaching law firm being planned by the College of Law was featured in a recent article in
Inside Higher Education
, titled, “A Residency Program for Lawyers.”
In the June 26 article, reporter Elise Young detailed the proposed firm, which has been compared to hospital residency programs that train new M.D.s. Dean
Douglas Sylvester
told Young the firm would have about five or six permanent attorneys and operate through a nonprofit foundation. It would eventually employ 25-35 students, Sylvester said.
“The idea is to have a place for our recent grads to go and spend two to three years getting valuable legal experience in a real law firm,” Sylvester said. “That ensures that they get the kind of soft landing and legal training that will really set them up for the rest of their careers.”
