Professor Zachary Kramer appeared on PBS’s Arizona Horizon to discuss the constitutionality of California’s ban on gay marriage and its impact on Arizona on Feb. 9.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals recently found California’s Proposition 8, which says that marriage is the union of one man and one woman, to be unconstitutional. Kramer said the court’s reasoning behind the decision was that citizens had a right that was taken away for an improper reason.

Kramer said the next step would be to take the case to a larger panel of the 9th Circuit or to the Supreme Court.

He also said that decision wouldn’t have an impact on Arizona because it never allowed same sex marriage in the first place, which was unique to California.
