Emeritus Professor Michael Berch and his wife, Arizona Supreme Court Cheief Justice Rebecca White Berch, were featured by the ASU Foundation for their philanthropic efforts in helping law students finance their education, in addition to all the contributions they’ve made as College of Law faculty.

The couple created a scholarship endowment for second and third year law students in 1986. They also gave an additional $50,000 this year to celebrate Michael’s retirement in June, after 42 years with the College of law.

Michael and Rebecca, who is a 1979 College of Law alumna and former Director of the law school’s Legal Writing Program, have helped more than 50 law students through the endowment, which is awarded to upper-class students who demonstrate a commitment to the College of Law community’s well being and exemplify academic excellence.

Berch stated that, while he and Rebecca always gave to the College of Law, establishing an endowment fund was a more direct way to help students.

“We hope others will join us in helping students become informed citizens and in enriching our community through ASU,” Berch said.
