Marcy Karin
, Director of the Work-Life Policy Unit and Civil Justice Clinic, spoke at the 2011 Midwest Clinical Law Conference at the University of Wisconsin on Nov. 12 in Madison.
Karin’s talk, “Telling Stories, Making Change: Using Narrative to Advance Systemic Advocacy through Community Education, Mobilization, and Legislative Advocacy,” kicked off the systemic change track of the conference. Her session explored models, benefits and challenges of incorporating narrative into systems change work for women experiencing domestic violence and service members returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.
Karin teaches and researches workplace law, policy, and practice, administrative advocacy, legislative lawyering and women’s legal history. Her responsibilities include supervising student attorneys in the Civil Justice Clinic working on economic security, housing and consumer matters for low-income families. Karin is an active member of the national work-life law and policy community. She is regularly invited to speak about the role of thoughtful public policy in this area, and is listed in the Sloan Network’s Who’s Who in Work and Family.
