Myles Lynk

Myles Lynk, Peter Kiewit Foundation Professor of Law, was quoted in USA Today and the Grand Forks Herald on the NCAA ruling concerning the use of tribal names as mascots.

According to Lynk, the University of North Dakota’s Fighting Sioux moniker was required by North Dakota law to remain in place, while the NCAA threatened to reprimand the University if it does not change it by the end of this year.

"The University’s range of options is limited — it is caught between a rock and a hard place.” Lynk told USA Today’s Andy Gardiner on Aug. 11, “But one could argue that the state legislature has made a decision that hosting NCAA championships is less important than keeping the logo."

The Grand Forks Herald, the main newspaper of North Dakota, picked up Lynk’s quote and further explained the impact of changing the Fighting Sioux mascot in an article on Aug. 26.

Lynk's areas of interest include business and corporate law, civil procedure, legal ethics and professional responsibility, bioethics in health care and law and literature. From 2004 to 2010 he served as ASU’s NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative. He is chair of the American Bar Association’s Standing Committee on Professional Discipline and a member of the Council of the American Law Institute.
