Ferguson-Bohnee speaks about tribal environmental challenges

Patty Ferguson-Bohnee
recently spoke at the American Folklore Society Annual Conference.
Ferguson-Bohnee, faculty director of the Indian Legal Program and director of the Indian Legal Clinic, was part of an oil and water panel at the conference on Saturday, Oct. 27. The title of her presentation was “The Legal Obstacles to Environmental Recovery for Louisiana’s Tribe.”
The theme for this year’s conference was “The Continuity and Creativity of Culture.”
Ferguson-Bohnee has substantial experience in Indian law, election law and policy matters, voting rights and status clarification of tribes. She has testified before the United States Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and the Louisiana State Legislature regarding tribal recognition, and has successfully assisted four Louisiana tribes in obtaining state recognition.
