Students find big advantages in completing February bar prior to graduation

Monday, April 14, 2014

Third-year Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law students Adam West and Catherine Barnard were quoted in a National Journal article titled "Arizona's Early Bar Exam Sitting Attracts 38 Hopefuls."

The article discusses Arizona's pilot program that allows law students to take the bar examination one semester before graduation.

"My first reaction was,'That's a cool idea.' But I wasn't ready to commit to it," West said. "I didn't want to add anything extra to my plate."

West ened up electing to participate in the state's inaugural early bar sitting, along with Barnard. "I was so relieved just to get the bar exam done with," Barnard said. "There is a nice sense of being done, and when I graduate, I can actually practice."
